Welcome to Historic Chesapeake City, Maryland, the “Hidden Treasure of the Chesapeake” for the start of a “New Day Tour”!  Upon our arrival, enjoy a self-guided tour of the C & D Canal Museum.  This nautical jewel traces the origins and the continuing history of the 14-mile long canal that connects the Delaware Bay to the Chesapeake Bay and is dedicated to the preservation of the history of the world’s third busiest shipping canal.  Owned and operated by the U.S. Army Corps of Engineers, this historic waterfront museum is located inside the original 18th century pump house, with a waterwheel and pumping engines that once controlled the water levels in the locks along the first edition of the canal.  Interactive displays, fascinating videos and more educate and amaze visitors of all ages.  Next, we are treated to a delicious buffet lunch at Schaefer’s Canal House.  Following lunch, we climb aboard the M/V Summer Breeze for a 2-hour scenic cruise on the C & D Canal.  Relax and experience the pleasures of traveling on the water and enjoying a unique view of the Upper Chesapeake Bay, as the M/V Summer Breeze cruises along the C & D Canal.  Have your cameras and binoculars ready for sightings of commercial vessels ranging from Cargo and Container ships, tugs, chemical and oil barges, U.S. Navy ships, research vessels, and mega yachts.  Also, view the native wildlife of the Upper Bay including Bald Eagles, Blue Herons, and Ospreys.  Note:  The M/V Summer Breeze is equipped with an inside salon with paneled windows for bad weather, comfortable custom cushions for seats, bench/booth style seating for 49 passengers, onboard restroom, cash bar, and is handicapped accessible.
