Celebrating Patsy Cline Tour

& Lunch at Golden Corral

Winchester, Virginia

Patsy Cline was born Virginia Patterson Hensley on September 8, 1932 in Winchester, Virginia.  Patsy performed for nearly a decade before her breakthrough 1957 television appearance, singing “Walking After Midnight” took her career to the national level.  She went on to record many crossover pop and country hits, including “Crazy” and “She’s Got You”.  Prior to her untimely death in a plane crash in 1963, Patsy Cline became a leading Nashville artist who’s enduring and beloved musical legacy lives on today!

Today we travel along the scenic highways of Virginia for a day in the beautiful Shenandoah Valley.  Our first stop will be at the Winchester-Frederick County Visitors Center where we will meet our step-on guide, and depart for a tour filled with biographical information and Patsy Cline trivia.  We begin with a drive-by the WINC radio station where Patsy’s sweet melodies first filled the airwaves, and the home at 720 South Kent Street where she married Charlie Dick.  Next enjoy a visit to one of the last corner drug stores in America, Gaunt’s Drug Store.  Patsy worked here as a teenager, making sodas on the fountain side of the store.  We conclude our driving tour with a drive out Patsy Cline Memorial Highway to Shenandoah Memorial Park.  Here you can pay tribute to Patsy at her final resting place, and learn more about her untimely death and see the bell tower that stands in her loving memory.  After our tour we take a guided tour of the Patsy Cline Historic House, where Patsy lived with her mother and siblings.  Walk where she walked, see where she slept, and hear stories about the formative years she spent living in the home while pursuing her music career.  We conclude our day in the beautiful Shenandoah Valley with a bountiful buffet lunch at Golden Corral before heading for home.
