Your Gunther Tours escort will invite you to play games, enjoy a movie and provide quite time as the miles roll by today. After checking into the historic Lambuth Inn, our hotel for the next three nights, we are treated to a delicious buffet dinner. Charming, elegant and historic, the Lambuth Inn is listed on the National Register of Historic Sites. The Lambuth Inn offers panoramic views of Lake Junaluska and the spectacular Blue Ridge Mountains.

Day 2

After a buffet breakfast, we meet our step-on guide and depart for a day of sightseeing in Haywood County. We begin at the Shelton House, a historic home located in Waynesville for a guided tour. Originally built in 1875 for the Shelton Family, the two-story Charleston-style farmhouse provides a glimpse into North Carolina history, heritage and crafts. The Shelton House is a historic house museum that features historic furnishings and decorative items, heritage crafts, agriculture exhibits, and items created by present-day crafters and artisans. The early 20th century Pennsylvania-Dutch-style barn, part of the Shelton's working dairy farm, contains a collection of antique farm tools as well as a century-old milking room. Stroll through the lush green lawn at your leisure, while exploring the gardens and grounds. Housed in and around the Shelton House is the Museum of North Carolina Handicrafts that features comprehensive exhibits of 19th century crafts, both Native American and North Carolina heritage artisans. Its treasures include many gems of history as well as contemporary examples of heritage handicrafts, each with a unique story to tell. Next, we head over to Downtown Waynesville to spend some time strolling down historic Main Street and visiting the many specialty stores that line the street. Mast General Store is the emporium with a little bit of something for everyone. If you want to take a treat home for that furry friend, stop by Smoky Mountain Dog Bakery. While downtown, we'll stop at the Boojum Brewing Company for a delicious lunch, followed by a sampling of selected Boojum Brewing beers. After lunch we head out to explore the Western North Carolina Quilt Trail. As we travel along the trail we will view vividly painted quilt squares installed on barns and buildings of participating communities. On the way, we'll stop in the town of Clyde to tour the Shook Museum. The Shook Museum at the Shook-Smathers House is considered one of the oldest homes still standing in the county. Built in 1795, the Shook-Smathers House was called the "oldest frame house west of the Blue Ridge" by Preservation North Carolina and was listed on the National Register of Historic Places in 2008. Next, we visit the nearby town of Canton and the Colonial Theatre. Opened in 1932, the historic Colonial Theatre was the first theatre in town built specifically as a modern motion picture playhouse and it served as a central focus of the town's social life through the 1960s. Following our tour, we return to our hotel to freshen up before going out for dinner and entertainment at the Catalooche Ranch. At an elevation of 5,000-foot, the ranch borders the Great Smoky Mountains National Park and offers extraordinary mountain views and gourmet mountain meals!

Upon our arrival, we will embark on a 4-½ hour, 44-mile round trip train ride along the Tuckasegee River, over the impressive Fontana Lake Trestle and into the Nantahala River Gorge. Listen to Bluegrass music and hear Appalachian stories while traveling along the Tennessee and Nantahala Rivers.
