Lunch at Hickory Bridge Farm

Today we begin our Gettysburg tour by listening to Abraham Lincoln’s words in the film, “A New Birth of Freedom”.  From slavery and secession to the opening shots at Fort Sumter and Bull Run, A New Birth of Freedom, narrated by Morgan Freeman, places you in the midst of the momentous and tragic events of the Civil War, and provides an orientation to the complex battle of Gettysburg.  Next, Pickett's Charge comes to life in the massive circular Cyclorama painting through a spectacular sound and light show.  View the breathtaking Cyclorama, a 377-foot, 360-degree cylindrical painting by the French artist Paul Philippoteaux, depicting the climactic battle of Pickett’s Charge.  The original 1884 work of art is the largest of its kind in the country.  After viewing the Cyclorama, we depart for Hickory Bridge Farm in Orrtanna, Pennsylvania for a delicious family style lunch.  A costumed actor portraying Abraham Lincoln will entertain us following our luncheon.  President Lincoln will explain why the Battle of Gettysburg came to be fought at Gettysburg, and he will also debunk some of the myths surrounding the Gettysburg Address.  You will have the opportunity to be photographed with Mr. Lincoln while he performs and interacts with Gunther Tours guests.  The reciting of the Gettysburg Address will conclude our time with President Lincoln.  Next, we return to Gettysburg to meet our step-on guide and travel the historic fields of Gettysburg.  Through the amazing storytelling provided by our Gettysburg National Military Park Licensed Guide, you will be able to visualize Civil War history as the guide recreates the voices and stories of the battlefield.
