The Harriet Tubman Visitor Center &

Suicide Bridge Restaurant Crab Feast

Dorchester County, Maryland

Today we travel across the Chesapeake Bay to Dorchester County on Maryland’s Eastern Shore.  On our way to the Harriet Tubman Underground Railroad Visitor Center Museum our step-on guide will provide us with an orientation talk and give you a souvenir copy of the Maryland Harriet Tubman Underground Railroad Byway map to familiarize you with the history of the Underground Railroad and the legacy and heroism of Harriet Tubman.  Operated jointly by Maryland Park Service and the National Park Service, The Harriet Tubman Underground Railroad Visitor Center opened to the public in March 2017.  The visitor’s center will immerse you in Tubman’s world through informative, powerful and thought-provoking multimedia exhibits.  Harriet Tubman grew up in slavery in Maryland’s Choptank Region of Dorchester County, lived, worked, and worshipped in places near the visitor center.  It’s from this area that she first escaped slavery, and where she returned about 13 times over a decade, risking her life time and again to lead some 70 friends and family members to freedom.  To carry out the dangerous missions, she used the Underground Railroad, a secret network of places and people.  We will conclude our day in Dorchester County with a crab feast at Suicide Bridge Restaurant in Hurlock, Maryland.  Enjoy plenty of hot and spicy crabs, cool drinks, and the fellowship of friends old and new while dining in the waterside atmosphere of the Suicide Bridge Restaurant.  Your 2-hour crab feast will consist of steamed crabs, crab soup, fried chicken, clam strips, corn-on-the-cob, coleslaw, dessert, iced tea, soda, coffee and draft beer.
