Day 2

After a buffet breakfast, we meet our step-on guide, and depart for a tour of Cleveland. The tour will highlight how Cleveland is alive with new destinations mixed with charm of historic landmarks. We will view the Soldier's and Sailor's Monument, which was erected as a monument to honor Civil War soldiers and sailors, and the classic buildings of the 1903 Cleveland Group Plan. The Group Plan of Cleveland consists of a group of Beaux Arts style buildings with Neoclassical details arranged around a central Mall. It remains one of the best examples of the City Beautiful Movement. Today some of these grand buildings have been re-purposed: a department store is now a casino and a bank is now a grocery store. We conclude our city tour at Lakeview Cemetery and Garfield's Monument. Listed on the National Register of Historic Places, the James A. Garfield Monument is the final resting place of the 20th President of the United States. Dedicated in 1890, Garfield's memorial is a spectacular 180-foot tall monument featuring Romanesque and Gothic architecture, and intricate life size exterior panels depicting important moments in the life of President Garfield. The interior of the building features mosaics on the ceiling, stained glass windows, granite columns, and a striking statue of President Garfield. Down in the lower level are the caskets of Garfield and his wife Lucretia. Also, the upper level allows you to see the memorial from above, and from the balcony you can view the rest of the cemetery and the Cleveland skyline. Next, we visit the Rock & Roll Hall of Fame. Enjoy a self-guided tour through this 150,000 square-foot museum featuring seven floors, five theaters, changing exhibits, and includes the largest Elvis collection memorabilia outside of Graceland, the largest Beatles collection anywhere, view many pieces of Michael Jacksons' stage wardrobe, including his sequined glove and even Janis Joplin's psychedelic Porsche is on display. Discover the artist and music that shaped rock and roll as you can listen to hundreds of tunes from the 1920's to the 2000's. Have lunch on your own and later visit the gift shop before we depart for Canton, Ohio. Upon our arrival, enjoy a brief tour of Canton which includes a photo-stop at McKinley's Monument, a City landmark, and the final resting place for the 25th President of the United States, William McKinley. Later we check into our overnight accommodations at the Comfort Inn in Canton, Ohio for the night. You will have time to relax and freshen up before going out for a very special evening at MAPS Air Museum. We will have a private museum tour, followed by a buffet dinner. Enjoy this unique dining experience surrounded by extraordinary aircraft like the 1908 Martin Glider and supersonic F-14 Tomcat. From the earliest days of flight to supersonic jets, each aircraft on display made a significant contribution to aviation history. See the aircraft that helped to win wars, pushed the boundaries of flight and change the face of society. Make time to view the extraordinary and humbling display of a relic from the USS Arizona, sunk by a Japanese air attack at Pearl Harbor. A patriotic mystery guest is included during dessert!
