Day 1

Welcome Aboard! Travel in comfort aboard our deluxe motor coach to Coastal New England for a fun-filled summer weekend get-away! Our first destination is the Connecticut River Museum located on the docks of the Connecticut River in Essex, Connecticut. The museum, established in 1974, is a small, all-volunteer organization dedicated to the dream of creating a museum that would document and preserve the history of the Connecticut River Valley and its people. Discover the regions rich heritage and natural beauty through the museum's impressive collection of paintings, manuscripts, books, art and artifacts. Later, we climb aboard the sloop Onrust for a sightseeing cruise. Built in 2009, the Onrust is a replica of the original European sloop Onrust built in 1614 and used by Adriaan Block, (of Block Island fame), in his regional voyages of discovery. A fore-and-aft rigged sailboat with one mast and a single jib, the vessel is a dead ringer for the type of boat that the earlier settlers would have used. Discover the rich heritage and natural beauty of the Connecticut River Valley while you enjoy views of river wildlife and landmarks while gliding through the cool, peaceful waters of the Connecticut River. Don't forget to visit the museums gift shop and pick up a unique souvenir to remember the day following our cruise. Next we enjoy a delicious dinner at a local restaurant that serves up great local flavors. After dinner settle back and enjoy the scenery on the drive to our accommodations for the next two nights, the Doubletree by Hilton Inn in Danvers, Massachusetts.

Day 2

After a buffet breakfast, we depart for Salem, Massachusetts. Upon our arrival, we meet our step-on guide for a day of touring. We begin with a visit the Salem Witch Museum and relive the famous 1692 Witch Trials, and learn about the witch hysteria that overtook Salem in the 17th-century. Next we depart for a driving tour of Salem. Highlights of our tour include viewing historic sights of the Salem Witch Trials, including visiting the site where the gallows on which condemned witches were executed by hanging, and seeing the Witch House - the home of Jonathan Corwin, a magistrate during the witchcraft hysteria of 1692 and one of the oldest dwellings in the United States. We will also view the House of Seven Gables and learn about Salem's maritime history and illustrious role during the Great Age of Sail. On our drive past the historic waterfront and along Chestnut Street, we will see the grand homes built by sea captains and merchants between 1800 and 1840 during Salem's "Great Age of Sail". We continue onto Marblehead, often called the "Yachting Capital of the World" for a stop at Abbott Hall to view the original painting "The Spirit of 1776". After our tour, we return to Salem for lunch on your own, followed by "Salem's Haunted History," a 1-hour guided walking tour featuring Salem's oldest burying ground to unearth the secrets and stories of the infamous deceased. Later we depart for Gloucester, America's oldest seaport on Cape Ann where we set sail on the Thomas E. Lannon, a 65-foot fishing schooner. Sit back and enjoy the scenery or help the crew raise the sails as you sail through Gloucester's working harbor, past rocky coves, beaches, lighthouses, a castle, and magnificent waterfront homes. Before returning to our hotel for a good night's sleep, we are treated to a savory dinner.

Day 3

After a buffet breakfast, we depart for Fall River, Massachusetts and the Lizzie Borden House, site of one of the most famous crimes in American history. Relive the shocking and sensational 1892 murders of the Borden family, as we tour this Victorian home turned into a Bed & Breakfast Inn. Following lunch on your own, settle back and enjoy a scary movie on our drive home, while conjuring up your own memories from your summer weekend get-away.
