Day 2

After a buffet breakfast, we travel south along the coast through South Carolina's Low Country to the charming town of Beaufort, South Carolina, the "Queen of the Carolina Sea Islands". Beaufort is South Carolina's second oldest city. Upon our arrival, we meet our driver/guide and climb aboard Sea Island Carriage Company for a 55-minute narrated horse-drawn carriage tour. Let the clippity-clop of the horses take you back to a simpler time as you tour Historic Beaufort. Learn about Antebellum and Victorian architecture, as well as local Hollywood movie sites, including "The Big Chill," "Forrest Gump," "The Great Santini," and "The Prince of Tides". After lunch on your own we depart for Parris Island Marine Base where some 20,000 men and 2,000 women complete their basic training each year. View the Iowa Jima Monument, the Parade Field, and visit the Parris Island Museum which contains a unique collection of thousands of artifacts that tell the story of the Marines' history and traditions. Our accommodations for the next three nights are at the Best Western Plus Sea Island Inn. The Inn is in the heart of the historic district with amazing views of the Beaufort River and Antebellum Homes. Conveniently located, the Inn is just a short walking distance from attractions, entertainment, casual & gourmet dining, local stores, shops, art galleries, Beaufort's waterfront park, the downtown marina and 18th-century homes. Day 3

After a deluxe continental breakfast, we depart for a day of sightseeing on Hilton Head Island. Upon our arrival, we meet our step-on guide dressed in 19th-century period dress, and we travel back in time to the "Lowcountry Island" and learn about the culture of Gullah people. Brought to America as enslaved people, the Gullah remains one of the most culturally distinctive African American populations in the United States. The Gullah people have inhabited the Sea Islands along South Carolina for nearly three centuries. From Reconstruction to the Depression they have lived in isolated coastal settlements. You will travel through the Gullah communities on Hilton Head Island established when the island's landscape was only farmlands, trees, dirt roads, wildlife and natural waterways throughout and around the island. The distinctive Gullah language, storytelling, cuisine, music, crafts and folk beliefs will all be woven into an interactive educational and entertaining experience. At the halfway point of our tour, we will have a 15-20-minute rest stop at one of the Public Beach accesses, allowing for a casual stroll over a boardwalk to view the Atlantic Ocean and refresh. Next enjoy lunch on your own at Harbour Town. You'll find a variety of top-rated restaurants and casual outdoor cafés, plus shopping that features boutiques, custom gift and craft shops, and much more. Following lunch, we take a narrated sightseeing and dolphin cruise. We hope to catch a glimpse of Atlantic bottlenose dolphins in their natural habitat along the coastline, spectacular homes and yachts. After returning to our Inn in Beaufort savor dinner on your own at a restaurant conveniently located within walking distance of the Inn.
