Welcome to Summertime at Nemours Estate!  Today discover the beauty and history of the 300-acre country estate of the late industrialist and philanthropist Alfred I. du Pont!  A fine example of a French chateau in the style of Louis XVI, the Mansion was started in 1909 and completed in 1910.  The 47,000 square foot 77-room mansion looms over the surrounding formal gardens and is furnished with fine antiques, famous works of art, beautiful tapestries, and other treasures.  Our visit includes a 20-minute orientation movie, a bus tour through the gardens and surrounding grounds, including a visit to the chauffeur’s garage where the du Pont family’s collection of vintage automobiles are on display.  The grounds surrounding the mansion extend for one third of a mile along the main vista from the house, and are among the finest examples of French-style gardens in the United States.  The tour will conclude with a guided tour through a series of rooms on three floors.  Before our tour enjoy a delicious lunch at Buckley’s Tavern, a neighborhood tavern and restaurant located in the heart of historic Centreville, Delaware.  The two-hundred-year-old building that now houses Buckley’s Tavern was originally built in 1817 as a private residence.  Throughout the years the tavern was the site of a blacksmith shop and a tollgate to collect fees from those traveling to and from Wilmington, Delaware.  In the 1930’s, the house became a popular taproom and ice cream store and in 1951 the proprietor gave the tavern its current name.  Relax and relish the fellowship of friends old and new while you enjoy your meal!  Please provide a meal choice when making your reservations.  Your choices are Meatloaf, Seared Chicken Breast or Seared Salmon FilletNote:  This day trip has a maximum group size of 45 passengers!
