Indulge yourself in the delight sights, sounds and smells of Philadelphia while exploring gourmet specialty food stores, the “hard to find” local neighborhood spots, in South Philly where savvy Philadelphian purchases food for their pantry.  Upon our arrival, we meet our local Philly guide at The Italian Market on South 9th Street.  Our visit starts at the Italian Market Visitors Center where you will learn the history and culture of the Market through stories about the area’s famous personalities and hot spots, while assembled in front of a mural of former Mayor Frank Rizzo.  Sample foods from several iconic shops, including DiBruno Brothers House of Cheese, Anthony’s Chocolate House, Cardenas Oil & Vinegar Taproom and Cannuli’s Quality Meats & Poultry.  In addition, there will be time for shopping in this very special area of Philadelphia.  At our next stop, a $15.00 gift card is provided for you to enjoy lunch at the Reading Terminal Market.  This 114-year-old Market is one of the nation’s most vibrant public markets with more than 75 independent small businesses that offer an array of fresh and prepared foods, lunch counters and places to eat and shop.  The final leg of our tour begins at the colorful China Gate at the entrance of Philadelphia’s Chinatown, a perfect location for a photo opportunity.  Beyond the gate is a vibrant bustling Asian community.  You’ll tour an Asian grocery tucked in a basement, and make stops throughout the community.  Don’t forget to try Chinese specialties such as Bubble Tea, Mooncakes and Ice Cream Rolls, a delicious treat that originated in Thailand.  Bring along a cooler and take home a variety of tasty Philly specialties!
