Kennedy Center for the Performing Arts.  A landmark musical from the 1983 Pulitzer Prize for Fiction winning novel by Alice Walker, “The Color Purple” is an unforgettable story of enduring love and triumph over adversity.  Taking place mostly in rural Georgia, the story focuses on the life of African-American women in the American South from the early to mid-20th century.  The moving musical follows the epic journey of Celie, the inspirational main character, from childhood through joy and despair, anguish and hope to discover love and triumphing over the suffering caused at the hands of abusive men.  This revival production of “The Color Purple” is given an exhilarating new spirit with a fresh soul-raising score of jazz, gospel, ragtime and blues.  In 2016 “The Color Purple” won the Tony Award for Best Musical Revival!  Note: “The Color Purple” is recommended for ages 10 and older.  Before the show enjoy a delicious lunch at Gadsby’s Tavern in Old Town Alexandria, Virginia.  A U.S. National Historic Landmark, Gadsby’s Tavern has been offering fine dining since 1770.  Please provide a meal choice when making your reservations.  Your choices are Roast Beef, Chicken Fontina, Jumbo-Lump Crab Cake or Asparagus, Arugula and Roasted Tomato Ravioli“The Color Purple” is presented in the Kennedy Center’s Eisenhower Theater with Center Balcony SeatsShowtime at 2:00 P.M.
