Day 2

Day 2: After breakfast we meet our step-on guide, and depart for a tour of Asheville. You will be amazed by the Art Deco architecture and hidden treasures that wait to be discovered in Asheville's downtown, for example the engineering wonder of the tile dome ceiling at the St. Lawrence Basilica. Next, we visit the Smith-McDowell House Museum. Explore Asheville's first mansion and oldest surviving structure, now restored as a history museum. In addition to seeing restored period rooms spanning 1840 through 1900, the Museum also features special history exhibits in the Gallery Rooms. After lunch on your own we visit the Folk Art Center. Tucked peacefully among the pines on the Blue Ridge Parkway, the Folk Art Center showcases the finest in traditional and contemporary crafts of the Southern Appalachians. In addition to an Eastern National bookstore, the center houses three galleries, a library and the Allanstand Craft Shop, the oldest continuously operating craft shop in the United States representing the work of over 200 members of the Southern Highland Craft Guild. Enjoy live craft demonstrations daily in the Folk Art Center lobby. Later, we return to our hotel where you will have time to sit, relax and freshen up before going out for a delicious dinner at the Stone Ridge Tavern, a family friendly restaurant that uses the freshest vegetables and local ingredients selected seasonally from local farmers and the Western NC farmer's market to prepare mouthwatering, original recipes and create desserts made from scratch. Day 3

Day 3: After breakfast we depart for the legendary Biltmore Estate for a day of sightseeing. The Biltmore Estate is the largest privately-owned home in America. To provide you with the best possible tour experience we have included the official audio guide to capture the feeling of being guided through Biltmore's grand rooms. Highlights of the Biltmore Estate tour include access to George Vanderbilt's French chateau style mansion, its formal gardens, and the estate's winery where you will be treated to a wine tasting. Our visit coincides with the annual Biltmore Blooms: Festival of Flowers so enjoy the beautiful forsythia, spirea, red bud dogwoods and over 99,000 tulips blooming on the estate grounds which cover almost 75 acres surrounding the 250 room Biltmore House. Next, we depart for Hendersonville, North Carolina for dinner and the evening's entertainment. We begin with a delicious dinner at the Flat Rock Wood Room. A favorite with locals and visitors alike, the restaurant has a tasty reputation for serving up delicious award-winning barbecue meats and gourmet wood fired brick oven pizzas since 1950! After dinner we conclude the day by attending the Flat Rock Playhouse and enjoy seeing a Broadway caliber musical. The Playhouse continues to thrill audiences with professional Broadway musicals, comedies and dramas. An evening at the Playhouse is a wonderful escape from life's hectic pace with quality entertainment rarely found so far from Broadway. Following the show, we return to Asheville, North Carolina and our hotel for a good night's rest. (B, D)
