Day 2

Day 2: After breakfast we depart for Charleston, South Carolina. Upon our arrival we meet our step-on guide, and depart for a tour of historic Charleston. The tour will highlight the old historic city of Charleston, the famous Battery Waterfront district, and a drive through the Citadel - The Military College of South Carolina. Our tour will also include admission to the Joseph Manigault House. Now a museum, the three-story brick mansion was constructed in 1803. Designed by Gabriel Manigault to be the home of his brother, the mansion is an outstanding, well executed and preserved example of Adam style, or Federal style of architecture. Step into the world of early 18th Century elegance and the lifestyle of a wealthy, rice-planting family and the enslaved African Americans who lived there. The Antebellum structure features a grand staircase and rooms beautifully decorated with period silver, antiques, books and paintings, original to the Manigault family. Also, there is a garden and slave quarters on the property to visit. It was declared a National Historic Landmark in 1973. Following our tour, we visit the Old City Market where you will have some time to leisurely browse and shop. The Old City Market features more than 100 vendors selling everything from local foods to souvenirs. Lunch is on your own. Next, we depart for Wadmalaw Island, South Carolina. Upon our arrival, we will visit the Charleston Tea Plantation, the only tea plantation in America. Enjoy a tour of the factory, followed by a narrated trolley ride through the plantation fields. A delicious lunch will be served after the tour at The River House Seafood Restaurant.
