Today we depart for the foothills of the Blue Ridge Mountains and the Walton’s Mountain Museum in Schuyler, Virginia. Walton’s Mountain Museum is not just a museum, it’s home! There is no place like this in the whole world! To provide you with the best possible tour experience we will view a 30-minute video featuring Earl Hamner and stars of “The Walton’s” television show. Earl Hamner, the creator of “The Walton’s”, grew up in Schuyler and he attended elementary and high school in the building that is now Walton’s Mountain Museum. The Walton characters, named Spencer in his book “The Homecoming”, are based on his family and life in Schuyler. Walton’s Mountain Museum features replicas of John-Boy’s Bedroom, Ike Godsey’s Store, “The Walton’s” kitchen and “The Walton’s” living room. Also available for you to view are hundreds of photographs and pieces of memorabilia from the show. Be sure to visit the “Recipe Machine” room, Exhibit room, and Scripts room. Browse the souvenir shop for Walton’s Mountain Museum gifts, local crafts, books, DVDs and more. Following our tour, we depart for historic Michie Tavern, an authentic 1784 pub in Charlottesville, Virginia. Enjoy a delicious lunch in a rustic Tavern setting served to you by servers dressed in period attire. Before we depart for home, we conclude our day with a guided tour of Michie Tavern. (L)
