Day 1
Welcome Aboard! Join us for a fun-filled weekend getaway to the Wohlfahrt Haus Dinner Theatre, located in scenic Wytheville, Virginia, nestled in the majestic Southwestern Appalachian Mountains. This state-of-the-art, German-themed dinner theatre presents both classic and contemporary American musicals, complete with captivating songs, elaborate production numbers, and unforgettable dancing. After checking into our hotel for the next two nights, you will have time to relax and freshen up before we head to the theatre for the first of two exciting shows. We will begin the evening with a delicious dinner, followed by "Under the Boardwalk," an original musical revue celebrating the beloved sounds of Carolina Beach Music. Set in present-day Myrtle Beach on the first day of summer, this vibrant production features classic hits by groups like The Tams, The Embers, The Chairmen of the Board, and The Drifters. If you love beach music, you will not want to miss this nostalgic and high-energy performance! After the show, we will return to the hotel for a restful night's sleep in preparation for more entertainment and fun ahead!
DDay 2
After breakfast, we depart for Fort Chiswell Animal Park, known as
"The Biggest Little Zoo in Southwest Virginia," for a truly unique and unforgettable safari adventure. At Fort Chiswell Animal Park, you will come face-to-face with some of the friendliest and most entertaining animals you have ever encountered. We will board specially designed safari cruisers that will take us across 45 acres of scenic, rolling countryside. Along the way, you will get up close and personal with exotic animals from six continents. Knowledgeable tour guides will join us, sharing fascinating facts about each species and their native habitats. During the ride, you will have the chance to feed a herd of deer, kiss a friendly camel, and even dance with a few energetic monkeys - all in a single day! Following our wildlife adventure, we head to the Wohlfahrt Haus Dinner Theatre for our second show of the trip. We will begin the afternoon with a delicious, chef-prepared lunch, followed by "A Gospel Jubilee," a soul-stirring musical revue filled with the gospel songs you know and love. Featuring both timeless hymns and modern Southern Gospel favorites, this live production, accompanied by talented musicians, is sure to have you clapping, singing, and reminiscing. This evening, enjoy dinner on your own. You will have several nearby options to choose from, including popular fast-food restaurants and full-service dining, all within easy walking distance of the hotel.
Day 3
After breakfast we depart for White Sulphur Springs, West Virginia, and the historic Greenbrier Resort for a guided Bunker Tour, a must-see experience that unveils a fascinating chapter of America's Cold War history. Hidden in plain sight for over 30 years, the top-secret Bunker beneath The Greenbrier was designed as an emergency relocation center for the U.S. Congress during a potential nuclear crisis. From 1962 until its public exposure by The Washington Post in 1992, the facility remained one of the nation's most tightly held secrets. On this exclusive tour, you will step behind the massive 18-ton blast door and walk through the fully equipped underground complex, which includes House and Senate chambers, dormitories, a cafeteria, a power plant, a medical clinic, even a decontamination area. Discover how this facility operated in secrecy and what it reveals about America's Cold War preparedness. Before our journey home, enjoy free time to browse The Greenbrier's distinctive shops and have lunch on your own at a local restaurant. As we travel back, we will reflect on the highlights of our theatre getaway - from the charm of the Appalachian Mountains and the richness of regional cuisine to unforgettable performances and the remarkable story of The Greenbrier Bunker.
