Day 1

Welcome Aboard! Bundle up as we make our way toward the resort town of Stowe, Vermont. Gunther Tours invites you to relax in the finest of European-style accommodations, with spectacular mountain views at the Trapp Family Lodge, owned by the family that inspired "The Sound of Music." After a scenic day of travel, we arrive in Great Barrington, Massachusetts, where we check into our hotel for the evening. Tonight, we are treated to a delicious dinner at the historic Red Lion Inn in Stockbridge. Steeped in New England charm and dating back to the 18th century, the Inn offers a warm and inviting atmosphere, complete with classic décor, crackling fireplaces, and gracious hospitality. You will enjoy a thoughtfully prepared meal featuring regional favorites and traditional cuisine, making for a memorable dining experience before settling in for a restful night.

Day 2

After breakfast we depart for the Norman Rockwell Museum, home to the largest collection of original works by one of America's most beloved illustrators, Norman Rockwell. Enjoy time at your leisure to explore his iconic paintings and personal memorabilia, offering a nostalgic glimpse into American life through his eyes. We then journey north through the scenic Berkshire Hills into the Green Mountains of Vermont, arriving in Bennington, Vermont for an included lunch at the charming Publyk House. Perched high above the valley, this historic restaurant is known for its warm hospitality and sweeping mountain views, providing a true taste of Vermont. Following lunch, we visit the beloved Vermont Country Store, a nostalgic shopping destination filled with classic goods, old-fashioned candies, and unique New England treasures that delight visitors of all ages. This afternoon, we continue our picturesque drive through Vermont's rolling countryside, dotted with covered bridges, charming villages, and vibrant mountain scenery, before arriving in Stowe, Vermont. Upon arrival at the renowned Trapp Family Lodge, you will be welcomed with tea and cookies before settling into your deluxe accommodations for the next two nights. This evening, enjoy a delicious dinner in this one-of-a-kind alpine-inspired resort, completing a day filled with beauty, history, and classic New England charm.

Day 3

After breakfast we meet our step-on guide and set out for a memorable day of Vermont exploration. Our day begins with a narrated driving tour of Stowe and the surrounding countryside, where classic New England beauty unfolds at every turn. Along the way, our guide will share fascinating insights into the region's history and the unique character and traditions that define Vermont life. Enjoy free time in Stowe Village to browse its charming shops, art galleries, and local boutiques. We then travel along scenic Vermont Route 100, often referred to as "Quintessential Vermont," as it winds through rolling hills, picturesque farmland, and postcard-perfect landscapes. Our journey brings us to the beloved Cold Hollow Cider Mill, where we enjoy a behind-the-scenes look at traditional cider-making, complete with a demonstration. A boxed lunch is included here, and time is provided to explore the country store, filled with an incredible variety of apple-inspired treats, local specialties, and unique gifts - it is nearly impossible to leave empty-handed! This afternoon, we return to the Trapp Family Lodge for an engaging and enriching experience. Meet with a resident expert for a Trapp Family Lodge Tour, where you will learn about the lives of the von Trapp family, their journey to Vermont, and their legacy today. The program includes a documentary featuring Maria von Trapp, sharing her memories during a return visit to her former home in Salzburg, Austria. After the screening, stroll through the family cemetery to pay respects at the gravesites of Maria, the Captain, and their children. After some time to relax and freshen up, get into the holiday spirit with a hands-on ornament-making class - create a special keepsake to remember your visit. This evening, enjoy a memorable dinner at the von Trapp Brewing Bierhall Restaurant, beautifully situated on the grounds of the lodge. Nestled among cross-country ski and mountain bike trails, the Bierhall offers "a little of Austria, a lot of Vermont," serving fresh lager beers and a delicious selection of Austrian-inspired cuisine - the perfect ending to a day rich in culture, scenery, and tradition.

After breakfast settle back and relax as we begin our journey home. Enjoy a festive, holiday-themed movie along the way, the perfect opportunity to unwind and reflect on the memorable experiences of your time in Stowe, Vermont. Reminisce about the charm and elegance of the Trapp Family Lodge, the fascinating story of the von Trapp family, and the joy of celebrating the season in such a magical setting.
