Bar Harbor is a town on Mount Desert Island located on Maine's gorgeous Frenchman Bay. It serves as a gateway to the mountains and cliffs of neighboring Acadian National Park. Towering over the park, Cadillac Mountain has trails and views of the town, the bay, and the Cranberry Islands. From the town pier, the Shore Path winds along the bay overlooking the Atlantic Ocean and the Porcupine Islands.

Bar Harbor is a town on Mount Desert Island located on Maine’s gorgeous Frenchman Bay.  It serves as a gateway to the mountains and cliffs of neighboring Acadian National Park.  Towering over the park, Cadillac Mountain has trails and views of the town, the bay, and the Cranberry Islands.  From the town pier, the Shore Path winds along the bay overlooking the Atlantic Ocean and the Porcupine IslandsAcadian National Park landscape is marked by woodland, rocky beaches, and glacier-scoured granite peaks such as Cadillac Mountain, the highest point on the United States’ East Coast.  The area’s native wildlife species range from beavers to black bears, moose to mink, and otters to coyotes.  Also, a diverse variety of bird species can also be spotted, including peregrine falcons, bald eagles, songbirds, seabirds, and puffins and more.  So, come with Gunther Tours to the bayside town of Bar Harbor, Maine, a popular gateway!

Day 1

Welcome Aboard! Travel in comfort aboard our deluxe motor coach to "Vacationland," Maine, for a summertime get-away holiday. After checking into the Meadowmere Resort in Ogunquit, Maine, a seaside town on Maine's southern coast for the night, we are treated to a delicious dinner at Jonathan's Restaurant, located adjacent to the Meadowmere Resort.

Day 2

After breakfast we depart for the postcard town of Camden, Maine, "The Jewel of the Maine Coast". Upon our arrival you will have some leisure time to enjoy strolling through the winding streets of the charming Village of Camden while exploring the vast array of quaint shops, boutiques, galleries, and restaurants along the waterfront. Lunch is on your own. This afternoon we will make a photo-stop at the Summit of Mount Battie in Camden Hills State Park, with its panoramic view of Penobscot Bay. Later we depart for Bar Harbor, Maine, and the Acadian Inn for the next three nights. Our accommodations sit on four acres of land bordering Acadian National Park and the charming coastal Village of Bar Harbor. This classic Bar Harbor hotel has comfortable rooms, modern amenities including an outdoor pool and jacuzzi, and a great location! Tonight, enjoy dinner at a local restaurant that serves up great local flavors.

Day 3

After breakfast we depart for downtown Bar Harbor for a nature cruise on Frenchman Bay. Enjoy the coastal Maine scenery as we cruise past waterfront mansions and Acadia National Park. A naturalist on board will narrate the cruise as you search for local wildlife including seals, harbor porpoises, osprey, and eagles! Following the cruise, we visit downtown Bar Harbor for some leisure time, shopping, and lunch on your own. This afternoon we meet our driver/guide and climb aboard Oli's Trolley for a tour of Acadia National Park. Initially created in 1916, the park was given its current name of Acadia in 1929 and is the oldest American national park east of the Mississippi River. Included on our tour is a photo-stop at the Summit of Cadillac Mountain, the highest of Mount Desert's seventeen peaks, for spectacular views of the surrounding mountains, bay, and islands beyond! After returning to the Acadian Inn, you will have time to sit, relax and freshen up before going out for a traditional Maine lobster dinner at Bar Harbor Lobster Bakes, a perennial favorite of the locals in town! .

Day 4

After breakfast we meet our step-on guide and depart for a narrated, scenic tour along the southwestern part of Mount Desert Island, the largest island off the coast of Maine. Included on our tour is a visit to the Seal Cove Auto Museum. Featuring a collection of the earliest automobiles and motorcycles, as well as clothing and accessories, from 1895 through the early 1920s, antique auto enthusiasts, history buffs, as well as anyone who simply loves stories or wants to experience something entirely different, will delight in this unique collection. Hear exciting stories about this transformational time in American history, a time of invention and innovation. After our tour we return to the Acadian Inn where the remainder of your day is free to enjoy the quiet atmosphere and privacy of the Acadian Inn's location, the peaceful tranquility, and relaxing surroundings. Bring your bathing suit and take advantage of the beautiful outdoor pool and jacuzzi. For the convenience of those passengers who do not wish to spend the remainder of the day at the hotel, we will offer transportation to and from the Village of Bar Harbor. Be captivated by the independent spirit and friendliness of the people, as you stroll through the winding streets and explore the diverse array of interesting shops and enjoy a delicious dinner on your own; choose from side street cafés to pubs and taverns to sit down dining establishments.

Day 5

After breakfast we depart for Portland, Maine. Upon our arrival you will have leisure time to explore Portland's renovated Old Port area. So, look around, do some shopping, and have lunch on your own before we enjoy a very special adventure on the water. Later we discover the undeniable magic found along Maine's coast when we embark on a narrated Lights and Sights Cruise. Sit back, relax as we cruise through the bustling Inner Harbor and main shipping channel and make our way past Civil War era fortifications and the lighthouses that have guided mariners into Portland Harbor for over two centuries - including a close-up view of Maine's oldest and most photographed lighthouse, Portland Head Light. This historic lighthouse was commissioned by George Washington and built in 1791. Get a glimpse into island life while cruising past the villages and Victorian cottages among the islands. We enter Diamond Pass, long considered to be the "Gateway to the Calendar Islands," and view Great Diamond Island in Casco Bay, one of the most picturesque in Maine. Following our cruise, we depart for the Meadowmere Resort in Ogunquit, Maine for the night. After checking into our resort, rest, and refresh in the comfort of your spacious room before we go out for a delicious dinner at Oarweed Restaurant in Perkins Cove. A classic wood-shingled establishment with great ocean views, Oarweed Restaurant serves up delicious New England seafood and traditional American cuisine.

After breakfast we depart for home taking with us fond memories of our coastal Maine adventure filled with the charm of rugged seaside villages, delicious food, majestic views of Maine's rocky shoreline, and a pair of spectacular harbor cruises!
