Day 1
Welcome Aboard! Travel in comfort aboard our deluxe motorcoach to the majestic Hudson River Valley of New York. Today we arrive at the renowned United States Military Academy at West Point for a guided tour of this historic and inspiring campus. Founded in 1802, West Point has played a vital role in shaping the leaders of the United States Army for more than two centuries. Our guided tour highlights many of the Academy's most famous landmarks, including Trophy Point, the Cadet Chapel, and the historic Parade Grounds, all set high above the scenic Hudson River. Along the way, knowledgeable guides share the history, traditions, and stories that bring this legendary institution to life. Following our tour, we continue to Kingston, New York, where we check into the Best Western Hotel for a relaxing three-night stay. Located in historic Kingston, our hotel offers comfortable accommodations and convenient amenities including an indoor pool, fitness room, and on-site restaurant and lounge. This evening, we enjoy a delicious dinner at a popular waterfront restaurant located along the historic Rondout waterfront district. This charming dining spot features modern Hudson Valley - inspired cuisine served in a warm, vintage-style setting that reflects the rich maritime heritage of the area. After dinner, we return to our hotel for a restful night's sleep.
DDay 2
After breakfast we meet our step-on guide and depart for a full day of sightseeing in the scenic Hudson Valley. Our day begins with a photo-stop at Walkway Over the Hudson, a stunning linear park and pedestrian bridge spanning the Hudson River between Poughkeepsie and Highland, New York. Originally built in 1889 as a railroad bridge, it has been transformed into the world's longest elevated pedestrian bridge, offering breathtaking panoramic views of the Hudson River and surrounding countryside. Next, we travel to Hyde Park for admission to the Franklin D. Roosevelt Presidential Library and Museum, the first presidential library in the United States, designed by Franklin D. Roosevelt himself. The museum features engaging exhibits, rare artifacts, and interactive displays that explore Roosevelt's leadership during the Great Depression and World War II. Lunch is on your own at the nearby Eveready Diner, a classic 1950s-style diner offering a wide variety of menu selections. After lunch, it is a short drive to Vanderbilt Mansion National Historic Site, a striking example of Gilded Age architecture and luxury. Built in the late 19th century as a seasonal home for Frederick and Louise Vanderbilt, the mansion showcases elegant Beaux-Arts design, lavish interiors, and beautifully landscaped gardens. During your docent-guided tour, you will gain insight into the lifestyle of one of America's wealthiest families, all set against sweeping panoramas of the Hudson River. Next, we continue to Millbrook Vineyards & Winery. Nestled among rolling hills and lush vineyards, the estate offers tastings of award-winning wines in a serene and scenic setting, making it a favorite destination for wine lovers. We conclude our touring day with a visit to Rhinebeck Village, a charming and walkable village in the heart of the Hudson Valley, known for its historic architecture, unique shops, and excellent dining options. Enjoy time on your own to explore and have dinner on your own at one of the village's many restaurants before we return to our hotel after a wonderful day in the Hudson Valley.
BDay 3
After breakfast we meet our step-on guide and depart for another day of sightseeing in the majestic Hudson Valley. Our day begins with a visit to Olana State Historic Site, the former home of artist Frederic Edwin Church, renowned for its distinctive architecture and sweeping Hudson Valley views. Enjoy a guided tour of the mansion, with knowledgeable docents available throughout the rooms to provide insight. There will also be time to explore the house and gardens, capture photos of the surrounding landscape, and visit the gift shop before departure. Next, we cross the Hudson River to Catskill for a stroll along Historic Main Street to see Cat'n Around, the popular parade of artist-designed feline sculptures that has been turning the town into a vibrant outdoor gallery for over 20 years. Lunch is on your own at Frank Guido's Port of Call, a waterfront restaurant along Catskill Creek offering casual American cuisine and scenic marina views. Known for its relaxed atmosphere, friendly service, and fresh, locally inspired dishes, it is a pleasant spot to enjoy a meal by the water. After lunch, we arrive back in Kingston to board the Rip Van Winkle II. Relax and enjoy clear views of historic Hudson River lighthouses, waterfront mansions, and other notable landmarks on this narrated 90-minute sightseeing cruise. Later, enjoy a walking and driving tour of Kingston's historic Stockade District, where your local guide will bring to life the stories behind the beautifully preserved 17th and 18th century architecture that defines this remarkable neighborhood. We conclude our day with time to explore the district's charming streets, galleries, and boutiques before having dinner at one of the area's inviting local restaurants - the perfect ending to another memorable day in the Hudson Valley.
B, DDay 4
After breakfast we depart for Staatsburgh, New York for a guided visit to the historic Staatsburgh State Historic Site, the elegant Hudson River estate of Ruth Livingston Mills and Ogden Mills. Led by a costumed interpreter, The Real Gilded Age: America's Elite in the Downton Abbey Era tour provides a fascinating behind-the-scenes look at how the Mills family and their staff prepared for lavish weekend entertaining. This exclusive experience includes access to areas not typically open on standard tours, including the unrestored servants' hall. We then begin our journey home, reflecting on the scenic beauty, rich heritage, and timeless charm of the Hudson Valley and our memorable visit to the United States Military Academy at West Point. This enriching getaway offers a perfect blend of history, culture, and breathtaking landscapes - leaving you with lasting impressions of one of New York's most treasured regions.
