We travel to Wilmington, Delaware for a scenic 1-½ hour round-trip “Leaf-Peepers Autumn Train Ride” to the Mt. Cuba Picnic Grove, where you will enjoy a ½-hour layover at a secluded grove along the banks of the Red Clay Creek. Today’s trip on the Wilmington & Western Railroad will take you back to a time when diesel locomotive travel ruled the rails. Sit back, relax and enjoy the clickety-clack of the rails, while you find yourself surrounded by the colors, splendor, and beauty of autumn. You will travel round trip in antique passenger coaches pulled by an early-generation diesel locomotive. From your seat on the vintage train, you will see the past as never before. History will come alive, senses will be exciting, and a forgotten era will be relived, and you just might have a little fun along the way! Experience the golden age of railroading as you chug across bridges, clickety-clack through lush tall forests, wind through narrow rock cuts, and whistle past homes in the beautiful valley of the Red Clay Creek. Before our train ride, enjoy a delicious lunch at Schaefer’s Canal House in Chesapeake City, Maryland, the “Hidden Treasure of the Chesapeake” in Cecil County. Rich in local history and offering breathtaking views of the C & D Canal, Schaefer’s Canal House is more than just a restaurant and marina. It is a place where people come together to share stories, enjoy time with friends and family, and create lasting memories. Please provide a meal choice when making your reservations. Your choices are Chicken Salad Sandwich, Crab Cake Sandwich, or French Dip Sandwich (thinly sliced roast beef, provolone cheese, and caramelized onions on an Italian roll with a side of au-jus).
