Lincolns Funeral Train Trail
& Scenic Tractor Wagon Ride
and Box Lunch, Included
Elizabethtown, Pennsylvania
Today trip on the Harrisburg, Lincoln & Lancaster Railroad will take you back to a time when the steam locomotive ruled the rails. We will ride behind an 1868 replica of a 4-4-0 steam locomotive as it huffs, chugs, whistles, hoots, and rings its bell, traversing the original 1838 railroad bed on which President Lincolns funeral train traveled on April 22, 1865. You will travel round trip in an 1848 Pioneer Coach or a mid-1860s Combine Car that will make its way along the rails, passing an original 1835 hand-cut and stacked stone wall, through woodlands with 250 to 350-year-old witness trees, that were there when the original funeral train passed through, past the restored 1844 Herrs Mill Covered Bridge, and along Conoy Creek. A station stop at the restored 1844 Herrs Mill Covered Bridge provides breathtaking views and photo ops of both the covered bridge as well as the cascading, boulder-lined Conoy Creek. The train continues to the end of the line where it will pull into a 235-foot-long, replica of a typical 1860s-style Engine House where guests will disembark to enjoy a tour of the all-new Lincoln Funeral Train Museum and a narrated walk-through of the only ever built replica of the Lincoln Funeral Car, the United States. The funeral car is not handicap accessible. The United States rail car is a 2015 replica of the first private rail car originally built for President Lincoln in 1865. President Lincoln was scheduled to inspect the new coach on April 15, 1865, the day after he and Mary Todd attended Fords Theatre, but he never saw the car. Our train conductor will share the history of the Stone Gables Estate property, the Lincoln Funeral Train, The Star Barn Village, Ironstone Ranch, and the newest endeavor, The Barns of Belmont, which will house the National Christmas Center and more! A box lunch is included today. Please provide a meal choice when making your reservations. Your choices are Ham Wrap, Turkey Wrap or Veggie Wrap. Following lunch, enjoy a scenic tractor-pulled wagon ride around the grounds of the estate. Keep a watchful eye out for long-horn steers, horses, and the native wildlife including deer, turkey, rabbits, fox, and birds of all types.
