Join Gunther Tours on a scenic journey through the Shenandoah National Park.  Sit back and enjoy a leisurely drive along the historic Skyline Drive, while our step-on guide provides a narrated tour of the park.  Your journey begins just seventy-five miles from the hustle and bustle of Washington, D.C., at one of the most popular and scenic national parks.  With over 200,000 acres of protected lands, Shenandoah National Park has numerous cascading waterfalls, spectacular vistas, fields of wildflower, quiet wooded hollows, and is a haven for deer, songbirds, and black bears.  We will learn about the park’s history and the fascinating stories of the rugged individuals who once lived there.  The tour includes a stop at one of the best visitor’s centers on the Skyline Drive, the Harry F. Byrd Visitor Center at the Big Meadows area.  Additional photo-stops will be made at several overlooks along the Skyline Drive, offering you the opportunity to view many of the most scenic vistas in the eastern United States and breathtaking views of the land Shenandoah Valley more than four thousand feet below.  Keep your cameras ready because the Skyline Drive is an excellent place to view the diverse native wildlife that is abundant among the park’s forests and meadows.  A delicious lunch will be served at Skyland Resort.  Please provide a meal choice when making your reservations.  Your choices are Blue Ridge Pulled Pork Sandwich or Angus Burger Sandwich.  First called Stony Man Camp, Skyland Resort was founded in 1888 by George Freeman Pollock, Jr. a pioneer conservationist who was later instrumental in establishing Shenandoah National Park.  Pollock called the resort Skyland because of its lofty location near the highest point on the Skyline Drive.  Note: Fast food stops will be made both en route to Luray, and on the return trip home
