Officially becoming a national annual event in 1935, The National Cherry Blossom Festival celebrates spring and the blooming of the cherry trees along the Tidal Basin, while commemorating the March 27, 1912, gift of Japanese cherry trees from Mayor Yukio Ozaki of Tokyo City to the city of Washington, D.C.

Travel today to our nation’s capital, Washington, D.C., and spend a delightful morning viewing the Cherry Blossoms while touring Washington’s iconic landmarks.  Officially becoming a national annual event in 1935, The National Cherry Blossom Festival celebrates spring and the blooming of the cherry trees along the Tidal Basin, while commemorating the March 27, 1912, gift of Japanese cherry trees from Mayor Yukio Ozaki of Tokyo City to the city of Washington, D.C.  Mayor Ozaki donated the trees to enhance the growing friendship between the United States and Japan and celebrate the continued close relationship between the two nations.  Upon our arrival, we will meet our step-on guide, and depart for a tour of Washington, D.C.  Surrounded by a spectacular explosion of pale pink and white blossoms, we will view and stop at prominent landmarks such as the Jefferson Memorial, Franklin D. Roosevelt Memorial, Lincoln Memorial, Vietnam Veterans Memorial and the Martin Luther King, Jr. Memorial.  Additionally, a photo-stop to view the Cherry Trees at the Tidal Basin will be made.  Do not forget your cameras!  After our tour, enjoy a delicious luncheon at Gadsby’s Tavern Restaurant in Alexandria, Virginia.  A U.S. National Historic Landmark, Gadsby’s Tavern Restaurant has been offering fine dining since 1770.  Please provide a meal choice when making your reservations.  Your choices are Monte Cristo Virginia (puff pastry stuffed with Smithfield ham, smoked turkey, and Swiss cheese with a fresh berry sauce), Chicken Salad, Ale Battered Codfish or Butternut Squash Ravioli.  So, please join Gunther Tours and celebrate all that is spring in Washington, D.C.!
